When you arrive at the office on a summer Monday morning, it is very easy to tell who spent the weekend outside. There is a glow that resides on sun-kissed cheeks in those warm summer months.
The same is true of a personal encounter with God – you can’t hide it once you have basked in His presence.
Moses spent forty days and nights in God’s presence, conversing with Him as a dear friend. When he descended down the mountain to return to the people, no one wanted to come near him. There was a glow that frightened them.
Spending hours of quality time with people is going to change you, hence the reason, we diligently pray for our children’s friends. The same is true for us – who we hang out with is who we become. Carefully choose positive influences who support you in being the person you want to become. Another person’s character, conviction, and even appearance can rub off on you and change you to some degree.
When Moses enjoyed intimate time with God, he cared about the things God cared about. He recognized the Israelites weaknesses but knew where they could find their strength. Moses also knew God wasn’t trying to scare the people. He was showing His mighty power so the Israelites would know He was the true God and would therefore obey Him. If they would do this, He would make His power available to them.
God wants us to follow him out of love rather than fear. To overcome fear, we must think more about His love. 1 John 4:18 says, “Perfect love drives out fear.”
Moses had a glow about him because he carved out intentional time nurturing a relationship with God. What would make people see a similar glow in you?
